DC STREET ART
Anacostia Neighborhood of SE, DC
Here are some beautiful works of art located on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave in the Anacostia neighborhood of Washington, DC.
The WE ARE ANACOSTIA mural, located at the corner of MLK Jr. Ave. & Good Hope Rd. SE, was created by Luis Del Valle, @luis202artist on Instagram. How awesome is this 200 foot mural featuring Mayor for Life, Marion Barry?
Anacostia Neighborhood of SE, DC
The Onward and Upward We Go and Crown Act murals, located directly across the street from one another on MLK Ave. SE near Bus Boys and Poets, were created by Candice S. Taylor, @eshvion on Instagram, and are powerful in their own right. Crown Act, though, speaks to me and says SO many things like love, empowerment in your own skin, togetherness. *All the Feels*
Petworth Neighborhood of NW, DC
Ever seen this mural? Maybe a variation of it? Juan Pineda, @criomatic on Instagram, has created a few variations of the Petworth mural after vandals ruined it. This mural is located on Upshur St. NW in the alleyway between Willow Store and Loyalty Books.
NoMa Neighborhood of NE, DC
“ENTREPRENEURSHIP IS A BOXING MATCH. We the women know how to stay light on our feet.” -Shelly Bell.
This work of art is located at 1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC 20002, known as DC’s Union Market. Created by artists Brandan Odums @bmike2c, Ronnie Martin @ritesideronnie, and Nia Keturah Calhoun @niaketurah in partnership with Black Girl Ventures, this piece is reflective of the power of women, most specifically black women, in the entrepreneurial space. Did you know we’re one of the fastest-growing groups of entrepreneurs in the US?
Maryland Street Art
Mount Rainier, MD
Who loves bright colors and hummingbirds? Take a peek at this vibrant mural in Mount Rainier, MD right outside the Mount Rainier Library, located at 3409 Rhode Island Ave, Mt Rainier, MD 20712.
Bethesda, MD
“Work in Progress”, created by Michael Owen @michaelowenart on Instagram, is a collection of works that comprise an entire building at 4927 Auburn Ave. Bethesda, MD. It’s right across the street from Imagination Stage.
Virginia Street Art
Richmond, VA
The streets of Richmond, VA or the “Harlem of the South” as it’s referred to, are full of beautiful works of art. We stumbled upon a few in the historic Jackson Ward Neighborhood. Many of the works of art in Jackson Ward and throughout Richmond were created by Sir James L. Thornhill, @sirjameslthornhill on Instagram, and his volunteer movement, U.N.I.T.Y. Street Project.
