Caregiver Conversations: Identity, Justice and Activism in Childhood— A Book Discussion with Author Tiffany Jewell and Moderators, Ali Kamanda and Jorge Redmond
Kids & Families, Lectures & Discussions, Webcasts & Online – Designed for: Parents, Caregivers and Educators
Join us for a thoughtful virtual conversation about Identity, Justice, and Activism in childhood with nationally recognized educator and best-selling author Tiffany Jewell and children’s book authors, Ali Kamanda and Jorge Redmond. In her newly released book, The Antiracist Kid, Tiffany empowers young readers to embark on their antiracist journeys.
The book offers age-appropriate language, tools, and stories to help children and the adults in their lives to express their identity with clarity and pride and believe in the power we each have to recognize injustice and take action to make change.
Together Tiffany, Ali, and Jorge will discuss the book’s central themes as well as ways to center curiosity and love in a child’s antiracist journey, what justice and injustice looks like, and the many ways we can all participate in activism.
This program is a collaboration between the Let’s Talk! and Early Childhood Education Initiatives. Embedded within all the Initiatives’ work is a commitment to racial equity, developing positive identities, and engaging and supporting the communities around children. Through these Initiatives, The National Museum of African American History and Culture is in a unique position to support the youngest members of our society by providing age-appropriate programming for children; resources for adults at the museum and online; professional development opportunities for educators; and research-based publications.
