Fall brings pumpkin patches, fall festivals and much to do around the DMV. Maryland and Virginia of course have a wide-variety of farms offering a many activities for kids of all ages to explore.
This list is curated from our own experiences with farms in Maryland and Virginia. It’s not a complete list by any means so please do additional research. We will update this list as we visit more farms in the area to bring you the info you need to know.
Notes:
- The approximate distance from DC was measured from the U.S. Capitol as the starting location, using Google Maps. It was also calculated during weekday rush hour so times may vary.
- Information displayed on this page will be reviewed and updated as needed; however, things can change at any moment. Make sure to click the link to visit the farm/festival’s homepage for updates and booking.
Farms to Visit
Maryland Farms
Miller Farms of Clinton, MD
- Location: 10140 Piscataway Rd. Clinton, MD, 20735
- Approx. Distance from DC: 35 min.
- Open weekends through Sunday, November 2nd
- Hours of Operation: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Admission: $15 per person when purchased online (additional $2 if walk-in)
Miller Farms is definitely a gem being as though it’s fairly close to DC. We went during strawberry-picking season over the summer and enjoyed the jump pads and face painting. Fall festival admission includes a scenic hayrides, giant slides, ball toss, live animals (Barnyard Buddies), photo opportunities and an enormous corn maze. Enjoy the jump pads as well as the tire obstacle course, pedal carts and games. For an additional cost there’s also face painting, concessions and photography sessions.
Bottom line: Great location but lacks some of the amenities that larger farms have. There’s not much here to do for younger kids (babies and toddlers) but the older kids will enjoy the play areas and hayrides.
Visit the Miller Farms website to book tickets.
Maryland Corn Maze

- 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (peak weekends & final weekend)
- Weekday Openings: 9:30 am – 3:30pm
- Admission: $17.95 – $24.95 per person when purchased online ($2 more at gate)
- 2025 Theme: Wicked
The Maryland Corn Maze is a unique experience that changes slightly from year to year. They incorporate a different theme into their farm through decor and activities. The theme for 2025 is based on the Broadway Musical/Movie Wicked! Along with the theme, there’s a zip line, petting zoo, preschool play area, slingshots, jump pads, hayrides, photo ops and of course the corn maze! For an additional charge, you can purchase food for the petting zoo, paintballs (to shoot targets), concessions and pony rides. Plenty of pumpkins for purchase too!
Bottom line: Great for smaller kids! They have plenty of amenities to keep them occupied the entire time from corn pit to petting zoo and playground. For safety reasons, I also like that everything is on flat land so you can literally see the entire farm from any point (best when less crowded).

Butler's Orchard
- Location: 22222 Davis Mill Rd, Germantown, MD 20876
- Approx. Distance from DC: 50 – 55 min.
- Open Wednesdays – Sundays through Sunday, November 2nd
- Hours of Operation:

- Saturday – Sunday, and Columbus Day: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (Last entry 4:30 pm)
- Admission: $12 – $20 per person when purchased online ($2 more at gate)
Butler’s Orchard is definitely a DMV favorite for smaller kids. They have many unique offerings that are geared towards tots like their mini diggers ($3/3 minute ride) and pony rides ($8 extra). Butler’s Pumpkin Festival also has a twisted corn maze, giant slides (burlap sack given/required), giant jump pads and hayrides that are all included in the price of admission. Make sure to bring cash when visiting Butler’s. They have ATMs scattered throughout the farm as well. The Farmer’s Porch, which sells hot dogs, chicken tenders and a bunch of sweet treats takes card but other food vendors and additional activities are cash only. They also have a bunch of caramel dipped treats like apples, marshmallows and other items that we loved!
Bottom line: Another one that’s great for smaller kids! This farm gets extremely crowded especially the closer it gets to Halloween. I recommend booking tickets for earlier time slots if planning to visit in October. Make sure to bring cash and patience for waiting in lines, especially for food! Note that the pumpkin field to pick your own is located in a separate lot so you’ll have to drive to it. Pumpkins are pay by the pound. They also have a separate market that you’ll pass on the way to the festival.

Sharp's at Waterford Farm
- Location: 4003 Jennings Chapel Rd. Brookeville, MD 20833
- Approx. Distance from DC: 1hr. 15 min.
- Open Tuesday, September 30th – Monday, November 10th
- Hours of Operation:
- Weekdays: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Weekends: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Admission: Free, which includes hayride
Authentic farm experience! We visited Sharp’s in October of 2021 for one of their Toddler Open Houses. This farm really caters to those who are interested in learning about farm life. There’s a free hayride to the pumpkin patch and plenty of animals that can be fed. Although admission is free, pumpkins are pay by the pound. They have a series of special events coming up that may be of interest too. Note that the Farm Animal Open House Event is coming up on Thursday, October 2nd. Tickets are $10 per person. And it’s also dog-friendly!
Bottom line: It’s rare to find a free-entry fall festival! That being said, this farm is on the smaller side and other than the animals and pumpkin patch offers little for kids (& adults) to do. If you’re looking for an authentic farm experience, Sharp’s is your place!

Magnolia Meadow is a farm we try to visit every year! From excellent customer service to extremely good strawberry lemonade, I appreciate the range of things Magnolia has to offer. This farm is home to Maryland’s largest corn maze with over 5 miles of trails. There are farm animals, apple cannons, jumping pillow, mini zipline, pedal carts, mountain slide and barrel train. There’s a lot to do but it doesn’t get overwhelming, in my opinion. They offer private campfire rentals and u-pick fields of wildflowers and pumpkins. Also, on two special nights in October (11th & 25th) the farm will stay open until 10:00 pm for Moonlit Maze.
Bottom line: Magnolia Meadow is a great farm to visit with kids of varying ages. If you visit on a sunny day, remember to bring sunscreen and hats. There’s not much shade!

Summers Farm is HUGE with a few extra amenities like campfire rentals, Fireworks on Saturday nights in October and 45+ attractions for kids of all ages. During our visit, we played mini golf, rode the zip line, ran through the obstacle course and tried tug-o-war. There’s also a mega slide ($5) add-on. Check out their special events page for children’s entertainment & pig race dates/times!
Bottom line: Summers is a farm that can quickly become overwhelming. They have A LOT of activities. I highly suggest reviewing the farm map to plan how you will spend your time there. You can also book some things ahead of time like the campfire rentals & more.

Great fall-themed pumpkin wall and pumpkin hill! Nalls Produce & Garden Center isn’t a traditional farm but it has farm-like amenities and it’s free-to-visit so it’ll always be added to my lists! There are free fall displays including a pumpkin fort to climb, straw to dig and other things to keep the littles busy while you shop. They also have pigs and chickens on-site that kids can see but not touch.
Bottom line: Visiting Nalls Produce is a breeze from the DC metro area and the best part is it’s free! Be mindful of parking. They have a small-ish on-site, free parking lot. It can also get crowded fast. It’s best to go during the week or early on the weekends.

We’ve finally made it to our absolute favorite fall festival of all time! This was also the first fall festival both my kids experienced as toddlers. So much to do and see at Cox Farms. And they have the best apple cider donuts and apple cider in the DMV, in my opinion!
Included with admission is live music, milking demos, farm chores, hayrides, 7 slides, swings, Cornundrum (maze), local tastings of apple cider, hay tunnels and a kiddie zone for the littlest of kids. For an additional fee, you can mine gems, feed farm animals or grab food from the concession stands. Ticket holders are also allowed to take one pumpkin home at the end of their visit.
Bottom line: Again, it’s our favorite fall festival! From the food to customer service and even the political stance Cox has taken time and time again, we will forever love this farm!
I will say because Cox is massive, I highly recommend reviewing the Fall Festival Map prior to visiting. Don’t forget to snap photos at the iconic Cox Farms entrance and make sure to bring sunglasses and hats on sunny days!

Another great one that caters to kids of all ages! Great County Farms features two huge jumping pillows, 80 ft. slide, farm-themed ninja course, putt-putt golf, several mazes and maze games, petting farm and rope swings. There’s also a giant tire mountain that’s perfect for a photo opp and a variety of games throughout the farm. Bottom line: Great Country is a great place to spend the entire day. There’s also a vineyard across the street for adults who are feeling extra adventurous. During our visit, we picked apples in their massive orchard and later made an apple pie. Definitely a gem the entire family will love!

Kings Dominion's Tricks and Treats

- Open weekends through Sunday, November 2nd

Kings Dominion during Fall is a wonderful treat for families with kids of varying ages. In addition to their amusement park rides and carnival games, there’s a trick-or-treat trail, pumpkin and dance parties, live performances, costume contests and crafts. And these activities are all included in the price of admission. Their fall guide outlines all the activities and where they are throughout the park.
Bottom line: We love visiting Kings Dominion! It’s a little less crowded during the Fall and there’s more to do in terms of activities. Most rides are still operational; the only section that is closed is Soak City. My kids enjoy Planet Snoopy most. This section more so caters to kids ages 12 and under. Food can get expensive at King’s Dominion so I suggest bringing your own or purchasing a dining pass. You WILL save money with the pass, especially if you have a larger family.
