Dancing in the Wings by Debbie Allen book cover.
In honor of Howard University Homecoming, this week’s 4DMV Kids Book of the Week is Dancing in the Wings, written by Howard alumna Debbie Allen (BFA ’72, DHL ’93) and illustrated by the incredible Kadir Nelson. Loosely inspired by Allen’s experiences as a young dancer, the story follows long-legged, outspoken Sassy as she works to overcome self-doubt and pursue her dream of becoming a ballerina. This uplifting book celebrates confidence, persistence and learning to embrace the qualities that make you stand out. Families can continue the Homecoming celebration at FamFest on Saturday, October 17 - everyone is welcome, whether you’re a Howard alum or not! Purchase this book for $6 - $10 on Amazon.
